The core of an inherently safe project is avoiding or removing the hazards instead of adding equipment or protection devices. The less the safety is dependent on equipment, systems or procedures, the more inherently safe is the plant or the process.<\/p>\n
In practice, many of the processes we operate really require that hazardous products to be stored, and sometimes at significant amounts; or that severe operating conditions are maintained, e.g.: a reaction that can run away. Thus, the question is: “Can we change the process or the facilities to make them inherently safe?” The general principles for an inherently safe plant are divided into:<\/p>\n

\nd-isolation,
\ne-simplification.<\/p>\n
